Meet Stephan Marliss

Say hello to Steph, an adept of post-production antics for almost a decade – he’s practically the rockstar (literal quote from his boss) of dailies! In the past 30 years, he’s been juggling more roles than a circus performer, currently dazzling as a freelance Senior Dailies Colourist. Steph has accumulated incredible experiences at various workplaces, including Picture Shop, Technicolor, and Sim and has also been the freelance sensation at Harbor and its forerunner, Shed. Picture this: Steph, the multitasking maven, stumbled into a world where production and post-production do the tango.

Starting as a dailies technician, he thought, “Why not add a splash of colour?” and voila, a colourist extraordinaire was born, and after just five shows! As a dual US and Canadian citizen chilling in Vancouver, he’s practically clocked more miles in the US than a cross-country road trip – from bustling cities to the middle of nowhere, all in the quest for the perfect grade. But wait, there’s more! He’s fluent in the major industry tools. As an aspiring finishing colourist, he is seeking sage advice on how to sprinkle colourful magic on your projects. So, why settle for the ordinary when you can “Steph-ify” it with a dash of colour, and a whole lot of expertise? The show is about to start, and Steph is here to make it look spectacular!

Recent Project: Finishing Colourist

Eclipsa Audio

This was a demo created for CES 2024, showcasing an exciting new royalty-free alternative to immersive surround sound, developed in collaboration with industry giants like Samsung, Google, ARM, THX, AOM (Alliance for Open Media), and others. The technology, known as Eclipsa Audio, is powered by the open-source audio standard called Immersive Audio Model and Formats (IAMF).

Fullerton Media Inc., my client, tasked me with making the visuals as captivating as the immersive audio experience itself. The goal was to create images that truly “pop,” complementing the innovative sound technology.

It was an incredible experience working with a client who not only valued my input but actively encouraged my creative contributions, making it a project I’ll never forget.

The Colorist Society

The Colorist Society is the first professional society to represent motion picture and television colorists as a unified voice for the film and digital entertainment industry. The Society promotes the creative art and science of color grading, restoration and finishing and is dedicated to advancing the art of color correction and color grading in the production of motion pictures and television.
